Samsung Launches New Color Laser Printer
The CLP 660ND has built-in automatic duplexing capabilities, fits on a desktop and can hold up to 850 sheets. With 25 page-per-minute printing capacity, 128 MB of memory and a 533 MHz processor, the product can print up to 80,000 pages per month, according to Samsung.
The CLP 660ND starts at $699.
"This is our entry-level product into the work group environment," said Jay Shears, director of office automation, Samsung Electronics America. "The quality on it is just outstanding and there is a lot of very exciting, very relevant positioning that's gone on with this product to make it meet the needs of some of the business users. This is all backed up by some very aggressive channel programs for this product as well."
The product puts Samsung in a position to compete with market-leading HP, but Shears said Samsung's strategy is not to put itself in direct competition with other printer manufacturers.
"We're not positioning ourselves directly up against the competition because we think our offering is very distinctive and different. Our approach to the market is twofold. First of all we want to meet the needs of our strategic channel partners. We want our products to be reliable. We want them to have a good Samsung experience with our products with the reliability and the quality but also for them to be profitable to sell," Shears said.
Second, Samsung is working to provide end-users with lower costs over the products' lifecycles. "In most cases our TCO is below where the competitors are so that we can really optimize the Samsung experience with our customers," he said.
