AMD Hires Former Samsung Executive To Head Latin America Business

AMD appointed Miranda, 50, to replace Hans Erickson, who is moving from AMD's Sao Paolo office to its Austin, Texas. Headquarters to become AMD’s vice president of worldwide business management. Erickson will remain in Brazil through April to help with the transition, AMD said.

AMD said Miranda will take over as vice president and general manager of AMD’s Latin America region effective April 4. In addition to Brazil, where he and his family will reside, Miranda will be responsible for AMD’s operations in the rest of South and Central America as well as Mexico and the Caribbean.

"Ronaldo is a highly talented sales executive with a track record of implementing strategies and leading teams to successfully drive growth in the region," said Emilio Ghilardi, senior vice president and chief sales officer at AMD, in a statement. "His knowledge and experience in the market make him an ideal candidate to lead AMD's business in Latin America."

AMD said Miranda brings over 27 years of experience managing other tech firms in the region to his new position at AMD, the company said. Miranda spent ten years with AMD rival Intel establishing its channel organization in Brazil. He also worked at Texas Instruments and Itautec before serving more recently as vice president for Samsung's IT product division in Brazil.

AMD on Tuesday said former HP executive Mike Wolfe had been appointed AMD’s chief information officer. Wolfe, 52, has more than 30 years of experience in the IT industry, AMD said, most recently as vice president of IT for product development and engineering at HP over the last five years. Wolfe will report directly to Thomas Seifert, AMD’s interim CEO, senior vice president and chief financial officer.

AMD declined a request for further comment on the hires.
