Intel Strikes Up Tri-Band Wireless Technology For Centrino
The Santa Clara, Calif.-based chip maker said its Intel Pro/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection will ship in September, offering tri-band, 802.11 a/b/g WiFi connectivity capability.
The Network Connection will be integrated as part of the Centrino platform, which also includes the wireless connection and battery management technology. However, Intel said it would price the Pro/Wireless 2915ABG at $27 in 10,000-unit quantities.
Intel also said it will also offer the ProSet/Wireless Software version 9.0, management software that includes the Intel Smart Wireless Solution, which is essentially a configuration wizard with troubleshooting and security features.
The announcements come just weeks after Intel told customers it is delaying the launch of its Sonoma mobile processor technology from late this year until early next year. The technology is for Intel's next-generation Centrino.
