Maxtor Appoints Chief Operating Officer

In naming Wingert to the COO post, Maxtor moved to fill a management vacuum created earlier in the week by the resignation of Paul Tufano, who had been president, chief executive officer and acting chief financial officer. Former Maxtor CEO Dr. C. S. Park is the new CEO of the company.

Wingert most recently was president and chief executive officer of Cornice Inc., a developer of compact high capacity storage. Before joining Cornice, Wingert had spent 10 years at Maxtor, filling several different positions in engineering and general management.
