Intel Lays Off 311 In California Amid Ongoing Cost-Cutting Efforts
The semiconductor giant discloses hundreds of more layoffs in California as it continues a multibillion-dollar cost-cutting effort started more than a year to weather what CEO Pat Gelsinger has called a ‘pronounced slowdown in demand.’
Intel said it plans to lay off 311 employees across two campuses in California as the semiconductor giant continues a multibillion-dollar cost-cutting effort started last year.
The chipmaker disclosed the plan in two separate notices sent Nov. 3 to the State of California’s Employment Development Department, one for roughly 76 employees at its headquarters in Santa Clara and another for approximately 235 employees in Folsom.

The layoffs are expected to start taking effect at the end of the year, according to Intel’s notices, which are required by California’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.
These are just the latest layoffs to impact Intel employees in California after the company let go hundreds of staff located in the state earlier this year.
Intel has been making job cuts over the past year as part of a multibillion-dollar spending reduction plan CEO Pat Gelsinger announced more than a year ago to weather a “pronounced slowdown in demand” as the company moves forward with his ambitious turnaround plan.
“Intel is working to accelerate its strategy while reducing costs through multiple initiatives, including some business and function-specific workforce reductions in areas across the company,” an Intel spokesperson said in a statement to CRN.
The representative said Intel has “more than 13,000 employees in California and continue[s] to invest in areas core to our business, including our U.S.-based manufacturing operations, to ensure we are well-positioned for long-term growth.”
“These are difficult decisions, and we are committed to treating impacted employees with dignity and respect,” the spokesperson added.
Intel had 131,900 employees by the end of 2022, according to a regulatory filing from January
