2025 Internet Of Things 50: Taking Connected Intelligence To The Next Level

For the 2025 Internet of Things 50, CRN picked the coolest channel-friendly vendors that are delivering GenAI features and other kinds of innovative capabilities, whether they’re focused on connectivity, hardware, industrial, security or software offerings.

Generative AI is coming to the world of IoT, where vendors and solution providers alike see big opportunities to use large language models and other model types with advanced capabilities to create intuitive interfaces and deliver improved insight that otherwise could be difficult to create from vast amounts of physical data.

After ChatGPT and other early GenAI applications kicked off a massive wave of investments in cutting-edge AI capabilities in 2022, vendors ranging from Amazon Web Services to Johnson Controls are now introducing such features into IoT products and services.

AWS, for instance, in the fall introduced a new feature called AWS IoT SiteWise Assistant, which uses GenAI to summarize complex information and answer questions about industrial data in response to natural language queries.

Soracom, on the other hand, in the summer unveiled a new low-code application builder that lets businesses combine GenAI models from leading providers like OpenAI and Google with multiple data sources to easily create custom applications.

When Joseph Zaloker and his boss, Gennadiy Borisov, were taking meetings early last year to talk about their IoT solution provider business, Miami-based Klika Tech, he said they kept getting the same question: “What is your generative AI strategy?”

To Zaloker, head of business development and global alliances, and Borisov, president and co-CEO, the issue was that they didn’t want to rush into providing GenAI solutions until they knew they had something valuable to deliver to customers.

“We’re always very pragmatic in terms of our swim lanes, where we fit, where’s the strong value we bring,” said Zaloker. “Without us getting those ones and zeros where they need to go, the rest of this is all fodder for talk.”

But as the year went on, the company started to dabble in IoT projects with GenAI capabilities. Eventually, Borisov and his team saw how GenAI could serve as the “ideal interface” for IoT applications and, conversely, how IoT data could play a massive role in many of the models underpinning GenAI capabilities.

“IoT nowadays is not relegated to the corner of ‘Here is my predictive maintenance sensor,’ but now it is absolutely [integral] throughout the entire fabric of our lives, all of a sudden becoming the foundational part of any model, any platform, any outcome you would like to reach,” Borisov said.

For instance, Klika Tech developed a manufacturing anomaly detection solution that takes advantage of AWS’ Amazon Bedrock foundational models to “swiftly analyze” sensor data and deliver “precise analyses along with practical maintenance guidance.”

While Borisov said his company has internal teams focused on developing GenAI capabilities, they also work closely with AWS to take advantage of the cloud computing giant’s growing portfolio of services for applications at the intersection of IoT and AI.

“We’re investing seriously with an eye toward the long-term goal of how AI, from small models to very large models, penetrates all aspects of the business,” he said.
