ITBD Build IT Live To Move To Orlando, Collab With Disney
‘We‘re intentional about education,’ says Kam Kaila, ITBD president. ‘We are intentional about going out into the world and finding the people that are the best at what they do and bring them to the channel. It’s clearly evident about what we do and how we take it a step further than everybody else in our seriousness to education.’
Sunny Kaila, ITBD CEO
IT By Design is heading south to the “Happiest Place on Earth” for its 2023 conference, having outgrown its current event space and looking to offer best-in-class training to its attendees.
The Jersey City, N.J.-based master MSP is headed to Orlando next year for its Build IT Live conference and will be offering a service quality course by The Disney Institute.
The training will only be available for attendees who attended the 2022 conference in Jersey City last week.

“We‘re intentional about education,” Kam Kaila, ITBD president, told CRN. “We are intentional about going out into the world and finding the people that are the best at what they do and bring them to the channel. It’s clearly evident about what we do and how we take it a step further than everybody else in our seriousness to education.”
The training is designed for leaders of all levels. Participants will learn about business insights and best practices Disney has successfully used throughout its parks and resorts for more than 50 years. The training will be a separate and private pre-day session for early registrants only.
Sunny Kaila, ITBD CEO, said ITBD’s 2023 conference will have more educators, more training and at a larger scale.
“MSP companies don‘t have the resources to put together their own learning and development divisions,” he told CRN. “To help them with that capability, we have created a collaboration with a world-class training institution where they’re going to come there to the conference and do the training.”
Training Focused On The Customer Experience
He said if an MSP cannot get new customers, they have to be good at retaining customers.
“Customer retention is a result of customer experience,” he said. “When your customer experience is so amazing, your sales capability is a byproduct of that.”
Ebony Taylor, director of infrastructure services at Tech Impact, a Philadelphia-based MSP, registered for the 2023 event the day it was announced.
“This year was my first conference and to be very, very honest I was extremely afraid of attending the conference as the only representative from my organization,” Taylor told CRN. “But once I got there I was welcomed by many different individuals and it pretty much gave me the feeling I needed to continue to lead my team in a way that would be positive. It would not only help me grow but [also] my team and my organization.”
Learning The Disney Way
From what taylor learned at this year’s Build IT Live event, it was a “no brainer” to register for next year’s event.
“It was the incentive to be trained by the Disney organization,” she said. “Who else can provide better customer service than the greatest place on Earth. I felt the combination of the information and knowledge I gained from this year’s conference and to learn from the folks at Disney gears me up for the goals that I want to reach.”
Bill Campbell, CEO of Waldorf, Maryland-based MSP BalanceLogic, said this year’s conference was “fantastic” and had a wide variety of educational sessions.
“It’s definitely worth the time, effort and money,” he told CRN. “I’m looking forward to next year and the special Disney leadership training.”
Build IT Live 2023 will be held Sept. 20 to Sept. 22.
“Who goes bigger than [Disney],” Kam said. “When you bring them in to teach, they are known for that. Nobody is better at it, so when you go out and get the best and you bring them in to the channel, it’s top of the charts.”
