Ericsson Launches Mobile Broadband Module At IDF
The Swedish telecom and data communications vendor said its C3607w module is the result of Ericsson's ongoing collaboration with Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel to develop High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) mobile data solutions for the chip giant's mobile Internet device (MID) platform code named Moorestown, a partnership launched at last year's IDF in San Francisco.
The C3607w module, a broadband connectivity solution for portable CE devices like e-book readers and GPS navigators, is about a third the size of similar Ericsson hardware modules released previously, the company said.
"The C3607w is Ericsson's smallest, lightest and fastest mobile broadband module to date, capable of reaching uplink speeds of 5.76 Mbps with up to 40 percent less power consumption than previous modules. Equipped with Ericsson's wake-on-wireless feature, enabling remote wake-up commands from sleep mode, the CE module will also enable a new set of applications for security and messaging," the vendor said in a statement.
