RIM Confirms (Another) BlackBerry Email Outage
"Some BlackBerry customers in the Americas are currently experiencing delays in message delivery," said RIM in a statement. "Our technical teams are actively working to resolve this issue for those impacted. We apologize for any inconvenience."
The outage is the second black-eye for RIM and BlackBerry in as many weeks. RIM said last Thursday that it had fixed the issue behind an outage that caused e-mail delays for BlackBerry users earlier that day.
But several consumers and solution providers pointed out that customers aren't used to service outages from RIM's network operations center (NOC) and that RIM may want to rethink how its consumer-oriented BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) and enterprise-oriented BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) work for BlackBerry e-mail.
BlackBerry users again took to social networking platforms like Twitter to voice their complaints about the service outage which, based on those complaints, appeared to affect BlackBerrys on multiple carriers.
Before last week's outage and this week's disruption, RIM hadn't had a reported wide-scale service outage since February 2008, and that happened during a BlackBerry software upgrade.
