Galaxy Tab Revealed: Firmware Leak Confirms Samsung's New Baby
The firmware update, P10000XXJH3, was first mentioned Saturday by the blog Samsung-Firmwares.com, which wrote that the P1000 Galaxy Tab will run Android 2.2 and also mentioned a number of other specifics. According to the site, which claimed that the firmware it encountered was released in August and appears to be "version 3," the Galaxy Tab's screen resolution is 480x800, its camera's maximum resolution is 2048x1536, and it sports an ARM11 processor using a SP5PC110 core running at 1 GHz.
The Galaxy Tab will also have an integrated Flash player, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, and Swype screen technology, the report notes.
No U.S. carriers for the tablet have been revealed, but over the weekend, Engadget cited an anonymous source that claimed the Galaxy Tab is headed for Vodafone in the U.K., and will make its debut at Berlin-based IFA 2010.
Samsung itself confirmed the Galaxy Tab -- and that it would be out in the third quarter of 2010 -- in a June interview between Samsung Mobile Communications Division President J.K. Shin and The Wall Street Journal.
The Galaxy Tab will be only the latest in a range of Android devices made by Samsung, which include no less than five U.S. versions of its Galaxy S smartphone, each on a different carrier.
Samsung, like a number of other manufacturers, has hitched a wagon to Android's star, and now has a prominent place on the worldwide roster of hot Android devices.
