Dell XPS 13 and Lenovo Yoga 920 Battle It Out
It's getting tougher to tell the difference between laptops for the home and laptops for work. You can thank PC makers like Dell and Lenovo for that.
Two of the coolest laptops we've been trying out lately at the CRN Test Center are the latest Dell XPS 13 and the Lenovo Yoga 920.
Both have consumer-friendly designs and a ton of performance.
The Yoga 920 is larger with a 13.9-inch display, versus the 13.3-inch display on the XPS 13.
We tried the high-res displays on both laptops, and both look amazing. The Yoga 920 has a 4K display and it's the best screen we've tried this year. But the QHD+ display on the XPS 13 is a close second.
One key difference: only the Yoga 920 is a 2-in-1 with a display that can fold all the way back. The XPS 13 does have a touch screen option, but without the same convertibility.
Both laptops have speedy eighth-gen Intel processors and are very portable. The Yoga 920 is a little bit thinner, while the XPS 13 is lighter and smaller all around.
Battery life was terrific on both laptops in our tryout. The XPS 13 yielded 7.5 hours of heavy usage, and the Yoga 920 got seven hours.
The only big drawback with the XPS 13 is the camera, which is placed under the corner of the display and gives an awkward angle.
For the Yoga 920, our biggest nitpick is that the fan comes on loudly while the laptop charges up.
The laptops are priced similarly with both starting at $1,200, with higher prices for the high-res displays on each.
Either one will offer a satisfying experience for both productivity and entertainment. If we had to choose, we have a slight preference for the Yoga 920 because of its convertibility and 4K display. It doesn't hurt that its camera is in the right place, either.
