Watch: Samsung Galaxy Tab Active2 Put To The Test Under Water

The CRN Test Center is out with its latest tryout: The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2.

The Android tablet is a first for Samsung and it’s the company’s first LTE tablet sold exclusively by channel partners.

The tablet features a waterproof screen with a waterproof digital resistant pen and military-grade design to withstand harsh conditions.

Samsung says the tablet can be taken just about everywhere after testing the device under 21 rigorous tests for MIL-STD 810 certification. The company says it passed all of them: drops, shocks, vibrations, high altitudes and varied temperatures. In our test, CRN’s Kyle Alspach, senior technical editor at CRN, found similar results.

’The tablet and pen didn’t seem to be affected when we doused them in water and they continued to work even when still wet,’ said Alspach. The tablet can also be used while wearing gloves, a big plus for enterprise users.

The display also looks better than its 1,280 x 800 resolution would suggest — it's hard to tell that this isn't a Full High Definition display. That might be partly because the tablet compensates with very high brightness of 480 nits. That high brightness will no doubt be crucial for any workers needing to use the tablet outdoors.

Samsung is targeting the tablet for verticals including manufacturing, transportation and retail. Key applications include replacing paper-centric processes like enterprise asset management (i.e., for field work such as managing inventories and doing inspections).

The suggested starting price stands at $420 for the Wi-Fi model and 500 dollars for the LTE model. Watch the video included in this article for CRN Test Center’s full tryout.
