Opsware Adds Web Services APIs

The APIs enable the exchange of information between systems that perform functions such as monitoring, trouble ticketing and billing and Opsware's data center automation system.

The new feature will be available in Opsware System 4.0, due out this September. No pricing is available yet for the APIs or for 4.0.

The first demonstration of the API technology is slated to be with a Hewlett-Packard product during HP World this week in Atlanta. Using the Web services APIs, The companies have integrated Opsware's data center automation software with HP's Utility Data Center--a data center virtualization solution.

The combined solution offers software automation, virtualization of computing resources and application metering, according to Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Opsware.

Earlier this month, Opsware also said it plans to introduce software that tracks IT investments. The new Data Center Intelligence (DCI) software will also be bundled with Opsware System 4.0 and promises to track where and how IT dollars are being spent across all data centers, according to Opsware.
