HP Gives Partners An OpenView Of Adaptive Enterprise

Executives also offered attendees a peek into HP's OpenView management platform road map, which calls for improved interoperability between OpenView products and expanded support for Linux. OpenView is the core of the Adaptive Enterprise strategy.

In HP's Adaptive Enterprise vision, OpenView management software is the "critical" link between IT infrastructure and the business processes it supports, enabling customers to allocate IT resources as needed, said Nora Denzel, senior vice president and general manager of the Software Global Business Unit at HP.

HP plans over time to introduce multiple levels of Adaptive Enterprise certifications for solution providers, which account for more than 60 percent of HP's OpenView software revenue, she said.

Solution providers attending the conference said customers want to adopt HP's on-demand computing strategy, even if they don't always know it by name.

"That's definitely what customers are looking for," said Vince Lo Faso, professional services consultant at Logical, a Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based network integrator. "Some are able to verbalize it explicitly," he said. "Others, when they start describing what they want, it's an Adaptive Enterprise."

HP is also developing a partner Web site to support the Adaptive Enterprise strategy and will include white papers, best practices, sales tools and other resources, said Edward Rudolph, vice president of HP's Americas Software Business Unit. The site should be ready by October, he said.

Rudolph expects dozens of nonproductive U.S. partners to drop from its ranks over the next several months if they don't meet the PartnerOne requirements. That will enable HP to divert more resources to channel partners interested in the Adaptive Enterprise initiative, he said.

On the product front, HP is developing a common data model across the OpenView family and will provide a common user interface, executives said. A new user console is scheduled for general availability next year. HP also plans to introduce native Linux versions of its applications.
