SMC Rolls Out Managed Switch For Workgroups
The SMC8612T 10/100/1000 managed switch became available Tuesday at an MSRP of $1,199. Uplinks and redundant power supplies are also available at list prices ranging from $519 to $3,454.99.
SMC, a wired/wireless networking vendor based in Irvine, Calif., has been working over the past several months to bolster its wired and wireless product lines, along with its channel programs. For instance, SMC is set to make available a new line of 802.11a/b/g enterprise wireless networking products in early August. And Sean Keohane, CEO of SMC, told CRN in a recent interview that the company this summer also plans to jump-start a new demo program as an incentive for channel partners to give SMC's products a test-drive.
The new managed switch released Tuesday features 12 fixed 10/100/1000 ports and four mini-GBIC expansion slots for optional fiber Gigabit connections, and it moves data at speeds of up to 24 Gbps, according to SMC. Security features include RADIUS, SSL and virtual LAN support. The SMC 8612T comes with SMC's EliteView network management software and support for Quality of Service and port mirroring, according to SMC.
