Telkonet Solution Gets Green Light
The Department of the Navy and Electronic Data Systems (EDS) has approved the use of Germantown, Md.-based Telkonet's networking solution within the Navy and Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) computing environment. Telkonet can help determine where its iWire System networking solutions may fit in the environment, which serves about 400,000 Navy and Marine Corps users across a wide range of deployments, including commercial spaces, disaster-recovery areas, historic locations, remote locations and small work sites.
NMCI is part of a $6.9 billion program awarded to EDS in October 2000 to unify thousands of Navy and Marines computer applications, networks and peripherals into one secure, enterprise-class computing platform. Eventually, the NMCI will link more than 400,000 workstations and laptops for 500,000 Navy and Marine Corps users across the continental United States, Hawaii, Cuba, Guam, Japan and Puerto Rico.
Rockville, Md.-based GovConnection signed a five-year contract--part of the Joint Cooperative Governmental Purchasing Program and Central Florida School Board Purchasing Consortium--with the Brevard County School District, Florida's 10th-largest school system, to provide IT products and services to the more than 74,000 students and 4,700 teachers.
The district uses Lenovo laptops and desktops, IBM servers and a range of software, accessories and peripherals solutions. GovConnection will also provide on-site design and installation, as well as solutions training.
