Cisco Picks Up New Wireless Technology Via Acquisition
Privately-held Cognio, Germantown, Md., brings with it a range of wireless spectrum analysis tools that aim to improve the performance of WLANs by finding and fixing RF interference problems. Cognio has been shipping its Spectrum Expert product line since 2005 and has been a member of Cisco's Technology Developer Partner Program since October, 2006.
Terms of the deal, expected to close by the end of October, were not disclosed.
"Wireless spectrum is a strategic asset for our customers, and its management is key to the robust delivery of mobility applications," said Brett Galloway, vice president and general manager of the wireless networking business unit at Cisco, San Jose, Calif., in a statement. "Cognio's innovation in spectrum intelligence will help ensure Cisco continues to differentiate our ability to deliver our customers rich and dependable end-user mobility experiences."
Cognio will be integrated into the wireless networking business unit upon close of the deal, according to the statement.
