Carousel Moves To Acquire NY Avaya Stronghold Juma

Under the terms of the acquisition, Carousel will acquire Juma Technology, a business unit of the publicly traded Juma Corp. Juma, which was ranked No. 50 on CRN's 2009 Fast Growth 100 List, has about 350 customers and offices in Farmingdale and New York City.

ConvergeOne was Juma's previous dance partner, and in September, the company announced its own letter of intent to acquire Juma and fold it into operating company NACR, one of Avaya's largest global channel partners. The deal didn't pan out, however, and Carousel moved in.

"Our acquisition of Juma Technology plays to Carousel Industries' core strengths in networking and convergence, while expanding our geographic footprint," said Jeff Gardner, Carousel CEO, in a statement. "The company's track record of growth -- despite economic uncertainty in the market -- is nothing short of remarkable."

"We are enthusiastic about this acquisition and believe it is a very positive development for Juma Technology's entire customer base," added Anthony M. Servidio, Juma's CEO, in a statement.

Nectar Services Corp., Juma's IP managed services and software arm, is not part of the deal.

Marsh said Carousel would continue to seek acquisitions both within the Avaya and Nortel channels and in other areas as Carousel hopes to bolster its security, data center and services businesses. Carousel recently made several executive appointments as it continued to integrate last year's M&A haul.

If the deal goes through, Juma Technology would represent its second of 2011 already; Carousel bought TAC Centre, a Nortel specialist in Westwood, Mass., earlier in January.

Carousel, ranked No. 202 on the 2010 VAR 500 listsing, is one of several heavyweight Avaya partners that have seen significant M&A activity the Avaya and former Nortel channels in the past year.

Xeta Technologies, Broken Arrow, Okla., has bought several Avaya and Nortel partners, Strategic Products and Services bought Consultedge, and distributor Arrow ECS picked up Shared Technologies.
