The 25 Hottest Edge Security Companies: 2024 Edge Computing 100
As part of CRN’s Edge Computing 100 for 2024, here are 25 security vendors working to secure the new perimeter for today’s businesses.
As a greater proportion of computing continues to shift to the edge, these environments and devices are facing intensified targeting by threat actors. A recent report from cybersecurity vendor Rapid7 found that attacks exploiting network edge devices have been on the rise, with a growing proportion of widely utilized vulnerabilities impacting technologies at the network edge. Without a doubt, “these technologies represent a weak spot in our collective defenses,” according to researchers at the vendor.
Meanwhile, protection for operational technology (OT) environments continues to gain greater attention in the industry as OT and IT systems see even greater convergence. In response, “I think organizations are finally starting to understand that you have to have the OT and the IT sides talking,” said Clint Bodungen, director of cyber innovation at McLean, Va.-based MorganFranklin Consulting, and an OT security veteran. “And I think that you’re starting to see teams starting to merge and utilize the expertise of both sides.”
At the same time, technologies offering secure access service edge (SASE) and security service edge (SSE) capabilities also continue to see surging interest, with protection of hybrid and remote workforces remaining a key priority for many organizations in 2024. SSE provides capabilities such as zero-trust network access (ZTNA), cloud access security broker (CASB) and secure web gateway (SWG), while SASE integrates those capabilities with SD-WAN to enable secure remote access to corporate applications and data.
