A10 Networks Buys ThreatX Protect To Boost AI Security And WAAP

Network security standout A10 Networks is boosting its cybersecurity portfolio around web application and API protection (WAAP) by purchasing the assets and key employees from ThreatX Protect.
Boston-based ThreatX provides API and application security with observability, vulnerability prevention and threat protection. The ThreatX Protect offering defends applications and APIs against threats including DDoS attempts, complex botnet attacks, API abuse, exploitations of known vulnerabilities and zero-day attacks.
The Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) security offering is sold through channel partners and is listed on Microsoft’s Azure Marketplace.
“Adding WAAP to our solution set gives customers additional capabilities to help establish a strong security posture,” said A10 Networks CEO Dhrupad Trivedi (pictured) in a statement.

“Expanding the A10 Defend security portfolio with ThreatX Protect gives our customers an additional tool in their strategy to protect against new and evolving threats,” said Trivedi. “Our strategic focus is on helping enterprises secure their applications and networks from the growing number of threats today, as well as protecting the emerging AI use cases of the future.”
The remaining assets of ThreatX will be relaunched as a new company called Run Security.
Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
San Jose, Calif.-based A10 Networks has a market capitalization of $1.55 billion.
The network security company recently reported fourth-quarter 2024 revenue of $74 million, representing 5 percent sales growth year over year.
What Is ThreatX Protect?
Founded in 2014, ThreatX Protect provides a WAAP solution using behavioral and risk profiling to help protect enterprises from evolving threats, including threats to AI applications, which can complement an AI firewall.
Delivered as a SaaS offering, ThreatX Protect includes API protection, bot management and next-generation web application firewall.
ThreatX CEO Gene Fay said he’s “confident that our customers and employees will thrive under” A10 Networks’ leadership.
A10 Networks, which was named in CRN’s 20 Coolest Network Security Companies in 2023, said the acquisition supports the company’s goal of reaching more enterprise customers.
The network security company has over 7,000 customers on a global basis by providing security and infrastructure offerings for on-premises, hybrid cloud and edge-cloud environments.
