Cavelo To Expand MSP-Focused Attack Surface Management Platform With Remediation Tool

For the four-year-old startup — which already offers capabilities in categories such as vulnerability management — ‘configuration management is the next step,’ says Cavelo CEO James Mignacca.

Attack surface management startup Cavelo will soon expand its platform to provide remediation capabilities for IT misconfigurations as the company continues its push to work with a wider set of MSPs, according to Cavelo CEO James Mignacca.

The product launch — planned for the second quarter — will add a fifth category to the Cavelo offering, which focuses on enabling MSPs to improve visibility and security for their customers’ sensitive data. Existing categories include data discovery and classification as well as asset discovery, identity access management and vulnerability management.

Speaking with CRN, Mignacca said the goal with moving into remediation is to offer “an easy button for the MSPs” to make configuration fixes, which aims to free up the service providers to focus on higher-value priorities for their customers.

While Cavelo already enables MSPs to manage vulnerabilities, “configuration management is the next step,” he said.

The tool will allow MSPs to help their customers with preventing breaches and achieving regulatory compliance — and will, ultimately, represent a new service that MSPs can offer to clients, Mignacca noted.

Adding capabilities for fixing misconfigurations is a smart move for Cavelo and shows that the startup is highly responsive to feedback from MSP partners, according to Wayne Hunter, president and CEO of AvTek Solutions, an Allen, Texas-based MSP.

“They're open-minded about [their offerings] and looking at how to improve,” Hunter said. “And they're really engaging people like us to go do that.”

Crucially, Cavelo excels at providing attack surface management capabilities for hybrid environments — something that is crucial in the increasingly hybrid world of customers today, he said.

The product expansion moves come as Cavelo also doubles down on growing its MSP partner ranks, an effort that’s being spearheaded by recently appointed Channel Chief Larry Meador.

A channel veteran, Meador joined Cavelo in January after serving as channel chief at security awareness training provider Infima Cybersecurity since 2023. Earlier roles for Meador included as channel chief at DataStream, an MSP-focused cyber insurance broker and services firm.

Cavelo, which was founded in 2021 and is based in Kitchener, Ontario, is backed by funding from investors including venture firm Inovia Capital and the MaRS Investment Accelerator.
