Apple Patches Tiger, Rolls Out Leopard Update

It was the eleventh update for Tiger. Apple also released patches for its Safari for Windows browser.

Mac OS 10.5.1, for both Mac OS X 10.5 and Mac OS X 10.5 Server, fixes three vulnerabilities in the application firewall. Apple also updated many features in Leopard including: resolving an issue with saving passwords for wireless networks; a potential data-loss issue when moving files across partitions in the Finder; formatting issues with Time Machine backup software; and mproving iCal alarm reliability.

The Safari 3 Beta Update 3.0.4 patched eight vulnerabilities in the Beta Safari for Windows browser, one of which could have allowed for remote code execution. Many are cross-site scripting vulnerabilities which identity thieves take advantage of to steal user names as passwords.

Apple's Tiger update, Mac OS X v10.4.11 and Security Update 2007-008, patched 41 vulnerabilities to the operating system, 15 of which allowed for arbitrary code execution, Apple-speak for attacks that could render Macs compromised. Others fixed vulnerabilities that could have let outsiders steal information from the hard drive, crash applications or threaten the DNS cache.

The update also included a patch for a flaw in the Flash Player plug-in that could have allowed hackers to execute malicious code on Macs.

Apple is not expected to issue another Tiger update.
