Mozy Gets Cozy With Mac

beta version

The data backup and recovery solution aims to protect Apple desktops, laptops and servers by providing automatic backup of information at a remote location, protecting against hard drive failure, computer loss or theft or natural disaster. The solution is a build out of MozyHome, a similar solution used by Mac consumers.

MozyPro is aimed at businesses using either OS X or Windows to automatically back up information from desktops, laptops and servers while managing backup and restoration processes from a single, Web-based administration console. In addition, clients also have online access to 30-day file versioning.

As for system requirements, the MozyPro site advises:

"MozyPro for Mac beta requires Mac OS X (10.4 and 10.5) or OS X Server (10.4 and 10.5). But, don't worry. If you aren't a hip, espresso-ingesting, turtleneck-wearing Mac zealot, MozyPro runs on Windows, too."

"Starting today, businesses with Macs can back up online with Mozy," said Vance Checketts, CEO of Mozy, in a statement. "Since our release of MozyHome for Mac in May of this year, thousands of Mac-powered businesses have contacted Mozy asking for an online backup service."

Security features include 128-bit SSL encryption which safeguards data during transport; 448-bit Blowfish encryption, which secures data on Mozy servers; private encryption key options, such as Mozy's own 448-bit key or a private key to encrypt data; and near continuous data protection that automatically detects and backs up new and changed files every two hours.

Pricing for MozyPro for desktops and laptops costs $3.95 per license plus 50 cents a GB per month. For servers, MozyPro costs $6.95 per license plus 50 cents per GB per month.
