Symantec Loses CMO To ServiceNow As Post-Blue Coat Acquisition Lineup Starts To Emerge
Symantec has lost Chief Marketing Officer Dan Rogers, CRN has learned, a departure that is likely one of many as the security giant looks to integrate its technology and executive lineup with newly acquired Blue Coat Systems.
Rogers left the Mountain View, Calif.-based company to become chief marketing officer at ServiceNow, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Symantec confirmed Rogers’ departure in an email to CRN. In an email statement to CRN, Rogers said he is ’excited’ to start his new role as CMO at ServiceNow.

’While getting things done in our personal lives with online consumer services has never been easier, the workplace has stagnated. ServiceNow is leading the revolution to apply automation to enterprise services. ServiceNow replaces emails, calls and spreadsheets with powerful workflows to deliver actions, across IT, HR and customer service,’ Rogers said in the email statement.
Rogers has been replaced by Michael Williams, who served as the senior vice president of marketing at Blue Coat and will now serve as CMO of Symantec.
’Michael Williams brings 10 years of cybersecurity experience to the role of CMO at Symantec. I’ve worked side-by-side with Michael for nearly a decade and have watched first-hand how he has strengthened the connection between customers and brands by building a world-class demand generation engine and innovative field and channel programs at McAfee and more recently his instrumental role in building industry recognition for Blue Coat’s brand as the global leader in cloud security,’ Symantec President and COO Michael Fey said in an email statement to CRN.
Rogers had been with Symantec for less than a year, joining the company in September 2015 to oversee its marketing efforts and demand generation. Prior to Symantec, Rogers had a long career in marketing executive positions, most recently at Salesforce as vice president of marketing for EMEA. He has also held positions at Amazon Web Services and Microsoft, according to his LinkedIn.
The move is significant because it helps piece together what Symantec’s executive lineup will be after closing its blockbuster $4.65 billion acquisition of Blue Coat this week. So far, Symantec has only publicly announced former Blue Coat CEO Greg Clark as CEO, former Blue Coat President and COO Michael Fey as president and COO, and former Symantec CFO Thomas Seifert as CFO.
Jason Eberhardt, vice president of strategic alliances at Chicago-based Conventus, said he thinks Williams is the right choice for the CMO role, saying he is ’very excited’ about the appointment. He said he has many years of experience in the industry and particularly highlighted the work Williams did at Blue Coat to establish the company as a leader in the cloud security market.
’I see what he was able to accomplish at Blue Coat and I am extremely excited to see what he will accomplish at Symantec,’ Eberhardt said.
