Mandiant’s Advantage Platform To Get A Boost With Intrigue Acquisition

The acquisition will bring an integration of attack surface management technologies into the Mandiant Advantage software-as-a-service platform.

FireEye-owned Mandiant on Tuesday announced it has acquired attack surface management startup Intrigue in a move to bolster the Mandiant Advantage software-as-a-service platform.

The Mandiant Advantage platform is focused on providing discovery, monitoring and management of security risk across a customer’s attack surface, the company says.

Intrigue’s attack surface management technologies will be integrated into Mandiant Advantage, delivering a “deeper understanding of risk across multi-cloud, hybrid, and on-premise environments,” Mandiant said in a news release.

Ultimately, the combination of Intrigue’s capabilities with Mandiant’s platform will enable “overworked” security teams to gain better visibility into the assets they have, as well as into how to prioritize their work to “focus on the exposures that matter most right now,” Mandiant said in the release.

The terms of Mandiant’s Intrigue acquisition were not disclosed.

The deal follows other major acquisitions in the attack surface management space including Microsoft’s agreement last month to acquire RiskIQ and the acquisition in June of AlphaWave by LookingGlass Cyber Solutions.

The acquisition of Intrigue also comes as the sale of the FireEye products business approaches, which will lead to “decoupling Mandiant expertise from FireEye products,” FireEye CEO Kevin Mandiant said during the company’s quarterly call with analysts last week.

In June, Milpitas, Calif.-based FireEye announced the plan to sell its products business to Symphony Technology Group for $1.2 billion, undoing the 2014 acquisition that brought FireEye’s products and Mandiant’s services together. The sale is expected to close by the end of 2021.

Intrigue is based in Austin, Texas, and was founded just last November, according to the LinkedIn profile for founder and CEO Jonathan Cran. Mandiant said that Cran has joined the company in connection with the acquisition deal.

The Mandiant Advantage platform debuted in October 2020, with capabilities including threat intelligence that’s based on data from the frontlines of Mandiant’s cyber incident response engagements.
