Cyber Defense Minute: Protecting Your Users With Web Isolation

When your customers walk into their offices, chances are, they start their day by either checking email or surfing the web. However, Symantec research shows 90 percent of spear-phishing attacks are targeted at web and email accounts. This can be a big financial and operational blow for businesses that lack the necessary security protections.

“The best thing that a partner or a customer can do is stop all communication,” says Varun Kohli, senior director of strategic marketing at Symantec. “But that is over-blocking. That’s not realistic.” He goes on to say another approach is to just allow everything to get through, but that increases the risk of malware penetrating your network.

Instead, solution providers need to partner with a security vendor whose technology prevents malicious content from reaching user’s devices. This includes traffic sent from uncategorized sites created overnight. “Millions of websites get created every single day,” Kohli said. “They are spun up quickly and then they go off quickly.”

Symantec web isolation technology keeps customers safe by blocking uncategorized traffic. It also keeps businesses secure by providing enhanced security for privileged users, preventing advanced email threats and credential phishing, and blocking malware from any risky website. This allows users to access the web while protecting their business.

Kohli says, “Web isolation technology can work with other solutions that you have deployed. All it needs is a simple re-direct and we take it from there.”

Today, the web security market is worth more than five billion dollars. This signifies that customers have a clear demand for isolation technology, which partners can turn into revenue opportunities.
