Maxtor To Ship Small-Biz Version Of OneTouch Backup Drive
The Milpitas, Calif.-based disk drive vendor said the OneTouch II Small Business Edition will ship in mid-May and provide a cost-effective, server backup solution for smaller enterprises.
"We're not saying this is going to replace tape," for customers who still want to archive data, said Stacey Lund, Maxtor's vice president of marketing. But for small businesses looking to back up server data, the OneTouch II Small Business Edition could be an effective option, she said.
Among other things, the OneTouch II Small Business Edition backs up smaller chunks of server data--about 50 Gbytes--roughly four-and-a-half times faster than a tape solution, according to Maxtor. The new product also provides remote notification of successful backups to small-business IT managers via e-mail or a "red light/green light" desktop icon on a networked PC, Lund said.
The OneTouch II Small Business Edition, which like the desktop version sports a compact form factor, provides 200 Gbytes of storage, or 300 Gbytes compressed, and carries a list price of $599.95.
