EMC To Tighten Integration Of Dantz, Legato Products
Bill Dunmire, director of product marketing for EMC Dantz SMB software, said that sometime this year the Hopkinton, Mass.-based storage giant plans to release a central management console for its NetWorker enterprise backup and recovery software. EMC obtained NetWorker with its acquisition of Legato.
The console will allow NetWorker users to get a single view of their NetWorker and Dantz clients, making it easier to manage both applications, Dunmire said.
Such a management scheme is needed because many EMC customers use NetWorker to handle their data center storage requirements but also deploy Dantz in smaller remote offices with little or no IT support, according to Dunmire. "The products are very complementary," he said.
EMC also is looking at the snapshot capabilities of its Dantz and NetWorker offerings with an eye toward spinning out a separate product, Dunmire said, adding that no final decision has yet been made.
