QLogic To Acquire Troika In Storage Virtualization Play
Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based QLogic is one of the primary vendors of Fibre Channel-based host bus adaptors, switches and blade server switches. Westlake Village, Calif.-based Troika develops SAN-based storage management solutions for disaster recovery, backup and volume management.
For QLogic, the addition of Troika technology is an opportunity to add storage virtualization capabilities to its entry-level and midrange offerings to OEM customers and the channel, company officials said.
“OEMs are seeing a need for virtualization solutions tailored to their customer&s small and medium enterprises," H.K. Desai, CEO and president of QLogic, said in a statement. "To enable OEMs to respond to this need, QLogic will provide virtualization platforms for OEMs to build high-performance, low-cost solutions with the software of their choice.”
Among Troika's offerings are its SAN Volume Suite, an enterprise storage management and data protection solution for high-performance and scalable volume management, snapshot and mirroring features across heterogeneous storage environments.
The company also offers its Accelera Network Storage Services (NSS) Platform, a network-based hardware platform for hosting a variety of storage management and data protection applications including mirroring, snapshot and virtualization. Troika also offers embedded products for storage vendors to add intelligence to storage appliances, arrays, switches and routers.
Most of QLogic's products are sold via OEMs or through the channel.
