Oracle, Hitachi Join To Develop Storage-Management Tools

One of the first fruits will be the Hitachi DB Discovery for Oracle, a software library that plugs into Oracle File Mapping, Oracle's file topology extraction software, to let database administrators identify and retrieve information about Oracle datafile locations within Hitachi Freedom Storage systems.

The Hitachi DB Discovery for Oracle will be available from Hitachi this month.

Other efforts will integrate Oracle's Recovery Manager interface and the Hitachi ShadowImage replication feature of Hitachi's Freedom Storage systems to speed up and simplify petabyte-class system backups and recoveries.
