Sony Adds Fingerprint Access To Portable Storage Device Data
The new Micro Vault with Fingerprint Access is a 128MB stick that connects via a USB 2.0 port, and replaces traditional passwords and user IDs with a fingerprint identification system for accessing Web sites, such as corporate intranets or enterprise Web services. The device will sell for $140 when it ships later this month.
Also on Tuesday, Sony also debuted a Micro Vault that offers a reader/writer for Memory Sticks, a storage media often used in digital cameras and camcorders; rolled out a miniature version of Micro Vault that's about 60 percent of the physical size of the original; and boosted the capacity of Micro Vault with the introduction of one of the car key-length storage devices that can store as much as 512MB.
The 512MB Micro Vault will retail for $200 when it hits store shelves in November.
