EMC Leads Coalition To Create Data Center Blueprint

Led by storage giant EMC, nine major IT suppliers have joined to assemble a blueprint for corporations rolling out data centers where replication and recovery take top billing, EMC announced Monday.

EMC's partners in the blueprint include Dell Computer, Brocade, CommVault, NetIQ, Emulex, KVS, Microsoft and Nortel Networks. Like other such blueprints under the Microsoft Systems Architecture program, this guide is based on tests with real hardware in a laboratory setting.

The guide offers pretested configurations of hardware, software and IT services that companies can refer to in order to create an enterprise data center with integrated replication and recovery.

Core components include Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Exchange Server 2000, as well as products from the blueprint partners, such as Brocade switches and CommVault data management software.

The guide breaks down the data center implementation into individual segments that concentrate on services and issues such as security, backup, directory services and messaging, so that enterprises can pick and choose which to follow.

More information about the blueprint can be found on the EMC Web site.
