Avnet Adds Plasmon UDO Archiving Products
The move expands the Phoenix-based distributor's enterprise storage line card to include UDO archiving. Low-end Plasmon products already have been available through Avnet's IBM unit.
"It's a pretty easy fit for us to start talking to our customers about archived storage. We think there's a very large market out there around tiered data storage," said Dave Ochser, director of strategic business development at Avnet Technology Solutions.
"When you talk about information life-cycle management, information can reside on different devices with different storage options, as long as you have a strategy around that," he said.
Avnet will offer pre-sales and configuration support to VARs looking to sell Denver-based Plasmon's products, which include the UDO Archive Appliance, UDO 1 and 2 Drives and Media, G-Series UDO Libraries, and IBM 3996 Libraries for IBM System i and System p families.
In addition, Avnet will offer VARs education and training on how to sell data management and archiving solutions on disk, tape and optical systems.
Plasmon's products are a good fit for the health care market, according to Ochser. Avnet partners selling Plasmon and other storage solutions will have access to the distributor's HealthPath health-care practice and the HealthPath University training program.
