Now Playing For Mac Users: Netflix Silverlight Streaming Video
Last Monday, Netflix announced that it was planning on bring the streaming service to Apple users after PC users have had access to stream video content for some time.
Customers interested in joining this phase of the Silverlight streaming video on Netflix can do so by opting in. However, the company does note that there may be bugs.
Writing on the official Netflix blog, the company lays out four things users should keep in mind before joining the Silverlight service:
- There may be bugs. The company is logging all errors, but if users run into problems they can help by posting details in the blog comments.
- Not all movies are available to watch with Silverlight. Users may notice errors or lower-than-normal quality when watching certain titles.
- The new player works on PCs and Intel-based Macs.
- Windows users should note that if they opt in, they will need to use Silverlight on all the machines used to watch instantly.
One other condition to note and which must be agreed upon before given access is that once a user opts in to the Silverlight service, playing content through Windows Media player is no longer an option.
"By joining the beta you will no longer be able to watch using the old Netflix movie player that uses Windows Media Player," the company states.
