Sony DVD Recorder Burns IT Up
All PCs have the same basic capabilities, but providing customers with a state-of-the-art DVD recorder lets them burn discs more quickly and use the latest media. It is also a good selling point, one that enables a builder's systems to outshine the competition.
Sony is a brand name that gets attention, and its new DRU-720A DVD Recorder is an excellent choice for system builders.
The DRU-720A is Sony's eighth-generation dual- format burner. Naturally, it can record on standard 4.7- Gbyte DVD+R/+RW discs as well as CD-R/CD-RW media, but the drive can also record on the newer double-layer 8.5-Gbyte DVD+R DL discs. Double- layer discs have two recording layers, one on top of the other, and the DVD drive's laser focuses on the appropriate layer to read or write to it. The double-layer discs can store up to 4 hours of MPEG-2 video, and the discs are compatible with many home DVD players and DVD-ROM drives.
The DRU-720A is a real speed demon, with the ability to burn DVD+R discs at up to 16X speed, which means the drive takes only about 6 minutes to burn a disc. Rewritable DVD+RW discs can be burned at up to 8X, and DVD-RW discs can be burned at up to 6X. Double-layer DVD+R discs can be burned at up to 4X, CD-R media can be burned at 48X and CD-RW media can be burned at 24X.
The internal ATAPI drive can easily be installed in place of an existing CD-ROM drive, and Sony supplies both black and white front bezels with the drive to match popular chassis colors. In addition, Sony bundles all the software users will need, including Nero Burning ROM SE, NeroVision Express, InCD, Nero Showtime and Nero BackitUp.
