AOpen Expands Motherboard Offerings

The i915Pa-EFRII is a Pentium 4 motherboard that features Intel's i915P chipset with an Award BIOS and an 800MHz front-side bus. The i915P chipset supports both DDR2-400 and DDR2-533 dual-channel memory types for a maximum of 4 Gbytes of memory in four DIMM slots. ATA133 IDE hard drives should be used for best performance. Gigabit LAN and IEEE 1394 FireWire connectivity are also built in.

The i915Pa-EFRII also features two PCI Express slots and costs $195.

The new AOpen motherboard has one PCI Express x16 slot for graphics accelerators, and a PCI Express x16 graphics card is required. There is no AGP slot. The PCI Express x16 graphics interface delivers up to 8 Gbytes of concurrent bandwidth, and two PCI Express x1 connectors support simultaneous transfer speeds up to 500 Mbytes per second.

Other useful features include integrated ATA100, ATA133 and Serial ATA support, and the Serial ATA controller supports RAID 0, 1 and 0+1. An onboard Azalia audio codec supports 7.1-channel Dolby Digital audio and provides speaker output, line input, S/PDIF in and out, and microphone inputs. Other I/O ports include a floppy-drive connector, PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports, four USB 2.0 ports on the back panel and a connector for four more front-panel USB ports, as well as two COM ports, one printer port, an IrDA connector and a game connector.

It's easy to build systems using this motherboard, as AOpen supplies all the necessary drivers and software, a thorough installation guide, all necessary cables and a Norton AntiVirus CD. All connectors on the motherboard are color-coded for easy assembly.
