Preventing data loss is a top concern among IT professionals, according to a recent CDW survey. According to that study, 25 percent of all organizations have experienced a data loss in the past two years. In addition, the number of users accessing business networks increased an average of 41 percent during the same time period. The study found that companies considering themselves to have "Grade A" data security implement virtually all available data loss prevention measures.
First-quarter earnings reported by IBM showed revenue flat overall, growing just 1 percent. That's pretty much reflective of the Global Technology Services segment revenue, which increased only 2 percent (3 percent, adjusting for currency) to $10.0 billion. Global Business Services segment revenue was down 2 percent (down 1 percent, adjusting for currency) to $4.6 billion.
Emtec reported revenue for the quarter ending Feb. 29, 2012, at $47.7 million, up from $46.1 million in the same quarter last year.The real catalyst for that growth was consulting and outsourcing revenue, which increased to $25.2 from $17.6 million, a jump of more than 43 percent.
Robert Sell is the new CEO of Accenture's communications, media and technology operating group. Sell has been at the technology solution provider for 28 years and has held a variety of positions. He has been managing director of communications, media and technology in North America since August 2007.
Cliff Skelton joined Fiserv as its new CIO. He replaces Maryann Goebel, who will serve as an adviser until her retirement on July 1. Skelton will be in charge of global information technology infrastructure and operations, as well as enterprise architecture, technology governance and efficiency programs.
