Solution Provider 500 Awards: Honoring The Best
Solution Provider 500 Awards
To some of us in the channel, the first sign of summer is the annual Solution Provider 500 awards (formerly the VAR500 awards). This year's awards are presented at the SP500 conference in Charlotte, N.C., and recognize companies in six technology practices, as well as special awards for business transformation, executive of the year and company of the year. Here's a look at this year's winners.
Top Technology Practice: Cloud
OnX Enterprise Solutions
OnX Enterprise Solutions, Thornhill, Ontario, receives the award for Top Technology Practice: Cloud. Dave DeGroot, Southeast sales director, accepts the award from CRN's Jennifer Follett. OnX specializes in building critical apps, implementing crucial technology and migrating different platforms. It offers off- and on-premise solutions and grew 23 percent between 2010 and 2012.
Top Technology Practice: Managed Services
TekLinks

David Powell, vice president of managed services, accepts the Top Technology Practice: Managed Services award from CRN's Follett.
Top Technology Practice: Mobility
MicroTech
MicroTech, Vienna, Va., wins the Top Technology Practice: Mobility award, in part because of its meteoric growth since being founded in 2004. It supports more than 100 prime contracts with civilian agencies and military branches of the federal government and was fourth on CRN's Fast Growth list in 2011, boasting a phenomenal two-year revenue growth rate of nearly 750 percent. Top Technology Practice: Storage

Top Technology Practice: Virtualization

SP500 Business Transformation Award

Advanced Systems Group President David Sosnowski accepts the Business Transformation award from CRN's Follett. The Denver-based company was founded in 1980 as a ComputerLand franchise and quickly grew to include more than eight stores. In 1992, the company was consolidated into one main Denver location and has since transformed itself into an open systems integrator offering comprehensive consulting services as well as storage and data management solutions.
SP500 Executive Of The Year
Craig Abod, Carahsoft
When he started Carahsoft in 2004, Craig Abod combined his entrepreneurial spirit with more than 20 years of experience in government sales, marketing and contract management. In seven years, he has grown the Reston, Va.-based company from zero to more than $1 billion, generating more than $3.2 billion in total revenue during that brief time. Carahsoft has become the largest government partner and master aggregator for many of its more than 80 vendors, including VMware, Symantec, Red Hat and HP Software. Carahsoft also is a top-ranked GSA Schedule 70 contract holder. Abod accepts the Executive of the Year award from CRN's Burke.
