Who Makes The Most?
CRN recently highlighted 10 overpaid CEOs of publicly-traded solution providers on its new iPad app, but who makes the most money overall? Here's a list of the top 25 total compensation packages for CEOs for the VARs' 2011 fiscal years.
25. Jeffrey Davis, Perficient
President and CEO
Total 2011 Compensation: $1,424,490
Davis begins our list with a total compensation of just over $1.4 million for 2011. Perficient ranked No. 82 on this year's Solution Provider 500 list and acquired Northridge Systems in July to expand its Microsoft SharePoint expertise.
24. James Regan, Dynamics Research
Chairman, President and CEO
Total 2011 Compensation: $1,443,555
Regan's 2011 compensation increased almost $400,000 more than his 2009 and 2010 totals, the result of $360,882 in "other non-equity incentive plan compensation," which were executive long-term incentive plan awards from 2009 and 2010 plans, according to the company.
23. Paul Lidsky, Datalink
President and CEO
Total 2011 Compensation: $1,456,313
CEO Paul Lidsky made more than $1.4 million from Datalink in 2011, when the company was chosen by CRN as one of 20 Titans of Transformation.

22. Kris Canekeratne, Virtusa
Chairman and CEO
Total 2011 Compensation: $1,490,769
Virtusa was on CRN's Fast Growth lists from 2008 through 2010, under the leadership of Canekeratne, who totaled almost $1.5 million in compensation last year.
21. Frank Khulusi, PC Mall
Chairman, CEO and President
Total 2011 Compensation: $1,560,762
Khulusi co-founded PC Mall, then known as Creative Computers, with his brother in 1987. The company ranked No. 26 on this year's Solution Provider 500, down four spots from the 2011 list.
20. Simon Nynens, Wayside Technology Group
Chairman, President and CEO
Total 2011 Compensation: $1,595,290
Nynens was awarded almost $1.6 million in total compensation last year from Wayside, whose groups include Lifeboat Distribution as well as its TechXtend (formerly Programmer's Paradise) solution provider business.
19. John Marr, Jr., Tyler Technologies
President and CEO
Total 2011 Compensation: $1,722,590
Marr wasn't the only millionaire from Tyler Technologies in 2011. H. Lynn Moore, executive vice president and general counsel, made the list of CRN's Top Paid Lieutenants after being awarded $1.0 million in total compensation.
18. A. Laurence Jones, StarTek
Former President and CEO
Total 2011 Compensation: $1,860,948
Jones was replaced by Chad Carlson on June 23, 2011, and received almost double his total compensation compared to 2010, when he received $932,100. Carlson, meanwhile, was awarded $897,474 in total compensation for 2011 for six months as president and CEO and six months as executive vice president and COO.
17. Timothy McGrath, PC Connection

Total 2011 Compensation: $1,894,456
McGrath received almost $1.9 million in total compensation for 2011, a year in which PC Connection had the second-best stock performance among the channel companies tracked quarterly by CRN.
16. Prashant Ranade, Syntel
CEO and President
Total 2011 Compensation: $1,937,755
Ranade earned almost $2 million last year after earning $4.8 million in 2010, when he was named CEO and received a stock award of more than $3 million. Previously, he served on the board of directors of Syntel.
15. James Boldt, Computer Task Group

Total 2011 Compensation: $2,251,941
Boldt's total compensation in 2011 was an uptick from the $1.7 million he earned in 2010. He received more stock awards, option awards and non-equity incentive plan compensation last year compared to the prior year.
14. David MacDonald, Softchoice
President, CEO and Director
Total 2011 Compensation: $2,622,466
Softchoice is regularly Canada's largest VAR by revenue, for which MacDonald was awarded more than $2.6 million last year, when it acquired Unis Lumin.
13. Maurice Tose, TeleCommunication Systems
Chairman, CEO and President
Total 2011 Compensation: $2,651,956
Tose was one of four TeleCommunication Systems executives who was awarded more than $1 million in total compensation last year. Tose was awarded almost $1 million more than his $1.7 million total from 2010.
12. Boland Jones, Premiere Global Services
Founder, Chairman and CEO
Total 2011 Compensation: $2,921,870
PGi is transitioning its business toward a software-as-a-service model, according to Jones, who was awarded almost $3 million in compensation last year to lead that charge.
11. David Peterschmidt, Ciber
CEO
Total 2011 Compensation: $2,985,084
Earlier this year, Ciber announced plans to sell its Federal division to focus on more core offerings after reporting fourth-quarter revenue that declined 5 percent.
"While much work remains in 2012, I am confident that we are building a business model that will generate improved returns to shareholders as we drive revenue growth and profitability in the back half of this year," said President and CEO Dave Peterschmidt in February.
10. Ken Lamneck, Insight Enterprises
President and CEO
Total 2011 Compensation: $3,044,685
Like many solution providers, Insight is looking to the cloud for more growth. Lamneck, who was awarded more than $3 million in total compensation last year, helped launch the InsightCloud Solution Center earlier this year.
9. Terry Blakemore, Black Box
President and CEO
Total 2011 Compensation: $3,822,679
Blakemore plans to retire on March 31, 2013, after serving as president and CEO since October 2007. The company has named executive vice president and CFO Michael McAndrew as his successor.
8. Michael Roach, CGI Group
President and CEO
Total 2011 Compensation: $4,635,856
Roach was awarded more than $4.6 million last year after helping grow the company to $4.32 billion in sales. CGI also made No. 15 on the 2012 Solution Provider 500 list.
7. Paul Cofoni, CACI International
Former President and CEO
Total 2011 Compensation: $5,339,221
Cofoni stepped down as CEO in June 2012 after five years on the job. He still serves as chief advisor to the board of directors. CACI named Dan Allen, former president of U.S. operations, to replace Cofoni as CEO.
6. William Stone, SS&C Technologies

Total 2011 Compensation: $5,334,191
Stone's total compensation in 2011 was more than $1 million less than he was awarded in 2010 by SS&C. All told, he's been awarded more than $14 million in the last three years.
5. Tom Giannopoulos, Micros Systems

Total 2011 Compensation: $8,668,230
Like many CEOs, Giannopoulos was awarded more money in bonuses ($2.1 million), option awards ($2.5 million) and other non-equity incentive plan compensation ($2.1 million) than from his base salary ($2 million).
4. NV "Tiger" Tyagarajan, Genpact
President and CEO
Total 2011 Compensation: $8,779,079
Tyagarajan's total compensation more than tripled in 2011 compared to each of the previous two years. The jump was due in large part to almost $5.3 million in share awards awarded to Tyagarajan.
3. Pierre Nanterme, Accenture

Total 2011 Compensation: $9,784,185
Nanterme pulled in $1.1 million in base salary, more than $5.2 million in stock awards and $3.4 million more in non-equity incentive plan compensation in 2011. Interestingly, he wasn't even the highest-paid executive at Accenture last year. That honor goes to executive chairman and former CEO (as of December 2010) William Green, whose total compensation totaled $16,104,847 last year.
2. Francisco D'Souza, Cognizant Technology Solutions

Total 2011 Compensation: $11,761,958
D'Souza led Cognizant to fourth-quarter revenue growth of 27 percent last year, when the solution provider also named a new president and a number of other executive management promotions.
1. Michael Laphen, Computer Sciences Corp. (CSC)
Former Chairman and CEO
Total 2011 Compensation: $12,546,348
Laphen, no longer with the company, was also awarded almost $20.9 million in CSC's completed 2012 fiscal year, a figure that included nearly $6.8 million in cash severance payments. Laphen was replaced in March 2012 by Mike Lawrie.
