Infrastructure: Round 3

Terry Richardson, HPE, defeats David Helfer, F5

F5's David Helfer (l.) fell behind early and was never able to recover as HPE's Terry Richardson locked down a 59 percent to 41 percent win for a trip to the Field of Four.

In addition to defeating Helfer, Richardson knocked off Extreme's Bob Gault and his colleague at HPE, Scott Dunsire, to win the Infrastructure region.

Hardware: Round 3

John Byrne, Dell EMC, defeats Sammy Kinlaw, Lenovo

Lenovo's Sammy Kinlaw (r.) dazzled in the early rounds of the Channel Madness tournament, posting the largest margin of victory in Round 1 and the second largest in Round 2.

Kinlaw, however, ran into a buzzsaw in Round 3, in Dell EMC's John Byrne. Byrne, named chief of the newly minted Dell EMC channel program last summer, posted the largest margin of victory in the Enterprise 8, sending Kinlaw packing with a 78 percent to 22 percent win.

Byrne will ride his Hardware hot streak into the Field of Four.

Cloud: Round 3

Janet Schijns, Verizon, defeats Eric Martorano, Intermedia

In a battle of the last round's two highest vote-getters, Intermedia's Eric Martorano held a slim lead over Verizon's Janet Schijns. A slim lead proved not to be enough, however, as Schijns rallied late for a 56 percent to 44 percent win.

Schijns continued to boast massive vote totals, again gaining the most support in the round. Her trip to the semi-finals will mark the second appearance for a Verizon chief in the Field of Four; her predecessor, Adam Famularo, made it in 2015.

Software: Round 3

Gavriella Schuster, Microsoft, defeats Kendra Krause, Sophos

Closing things out in the Software region, Gavriella Schuster (r.) of Microsoft took down Sophos' Kendra Krause with a 53 percent to 47 percent win. The loss for Krause marks the first time a chief from Sophos failed to make it to the Field of Four, as her colleague Mike Valentine made the trip in the first two years of the tournament.

After knocking off chiefs at Red Hat and Oracle, Schuster will look to do the same against Verizon for a shot at the Channel Madness title.

The Field of Four

So here we are in the semi-finals, with four channel chiefs who are making their first appearance in the tournament making it all the way to the Field of Four.
