CRN Printer Week Reviews: Mobile Print Apps Offer Something For VARs Too
Mobile Print Apps
As Printer Week 2015 moves along, the CRN Test Center has reviewed eight of the latest single- and multifunction printers from today's leading vendors, as well as the mobile printing apps that go along with them. To varying degrees, these apps deliver value to end customers and to VARs that solutions like Google Cloud Print simply cannot. Here's a synopsis of all eight printer-app reviews, each with a link to the posted review, as well as to the apps themselves.
Brother iPrint&Scan
Not only does Brother help boost sales of its various and sundry printers with a series of sturdy mobile apps for printing, scanning and other stuff, the company also offers an SDK and tools to help solution providers put the same stuff into their own apps.
Dell Document Hub
Dell has totally rewritten its mobile printing apps, which were among the best we had ever seen. Replacing them is Dell Document Hub, which stands to benefit Dell printer VARs as much as their Dell printer customers.
Epson iPrint
If its excellent printers aren't enough to entice VARs to carry them, Epson iPrint apps for all major platforms might help seal the deal.
HP ePrint
The Hewlett-Packard ePrint apps can open the door to recurring revenues not only from consumable sales but also for HP's cloud-based services.
Lexmark Mobile Printing
For Lexmark VARs that plan to offer the company's Mobile Printing apps, the Test Center suggests building extra time into their plan for training and customer support.
OKI Mobile Print
OKI relies on Apple AirPrint for printing from devices running iOS. And that's a shame, because OKI Mobile Print for Android is one of the best mobile printing apps we've seen, and gives OKI resellers an important edge.
Samsung Mobile Print
Samsung printer VARs can recommend the company's highly capable mobile printing apps with confidence. And when it's time to restock consumables, the apps won't cut VARs out of the deal.
Xerox PrintBack
Xerox PrintBack not only takes a novel approach to mobile-device printing that can earn VARs service revenue on installations, it does something that no other product does: It supports printing to devices other than its own.
