7 Cool New PC Monitors Worth Checking Out

Judging by the number of announcements at CES 2019 last week, this may be the year when the PC monitor gets a bit more interesting. Ultra-wide monitors were a major theme at the Las Vegas tech show; Dell, Lenovo and LG were among those showcasing new wide-screen monitors that reach up to 49 inches in size. The new ultra-wide PC monitors are geared toward power users, aiming to replace the need for using multiple displays. Meanwhile, HP, Dell and Samsung also unveiled monitors in smaller sizes that offer differentiated features, such as for enhance adjustability and security.

What follows are seven cool new PC monitors we saw at CES that are worth checking out in 2019.

Dell UltraSharp 27 USB-C Monitor U2719DC

Among Dell's new displays on showcase at CES 2019 was the UltraSharp 27 USB-C Monitor U2719DC, a 27-inch monitor with impressive image quality. The display features QHD (2,560 x 1,440) resolution—providing nearly twice the picture details of an FHD monitor—with precise hues thanks to 99 percent sRGB coverage. The display itself is thin, as well, measuring just 0.25 of an inch, while the monitor's base is 29 percent smaller than a predecessor monitor, according to Dell. The UltraSharp 27 monitor also includes USB-C for connecting to laptops and other devices, and comes packaged with a USB-C cable, too.

The Dell UltraSharp 27 USB-C Monitor is available now for $519.99.

Dell Ultrasharp 49 Curved Monitor U4919DW

While a number of wide-screen monitors were unveiled for the first time at CES 2019, Dell was ahead of the trend a bit by debuting its Ultrasharp 49 Curved Monitor U4919DW back in October. Dell has described the monitor as the "world’s first 49-inch dual QHD monitor," meaning that the monitor is basically equal to placing two 27-inch QHD monitors next to each other (without the bezel in between, of course). It is possible to split the screen into two sides from two different PCs, however, with "picture-by-picture" capabilities. The curved monitor offers 5,120 x 1,440 resolution, a 32:9 aspect ratio and a 3800R curvature, along with 99 percent sRGB coverage.

The Dell Ultrasharp 49 Curved Monitor U4919DW is available for $1,249.99.

HP EliteDisplay E243p Sure View Monitor

Among HP Inc.'s big moves at CES 2019 was to announce the expansion of its Sure View integrated privacy screen beyond the notebook. The company unveiled the EliteDisplay E243p Sure View Monitor as the first 23.8-inch monitor with Sure View, a display technology that enhances privacy by reducing almost all visible light when the screen is viewed at an angle. The display also features FHD resolution and a slim bezel on three sides of the screen. Additionally, the he EliteDisplay E243p Sure View Monitor is highly adjustable with the ability tilt, pivot and swivel the display, while also adjusting its height by up to 5.9 inches of variability. Ports for connecting to a PC include VGA, HDMI, DisplayPort, while there's USB-A built in, as well.

The HP EliteDisplay E243p Sure View Monitor is available in February. Pricing has not been disclosed.

Lenovo ThinkVision P44W

Lenovo is targeting the most serious power users with the ThinkVision P44W, a 43.4-inch curved monitor for businesses. The massive monitor features a 32:10 aspect ratio and slim bezels for helping to immerse users in what they're working on, as well as a refresh rate of 144Hz. The ThinkVision P44W doesn't skimp on display quality, either, with resolution of 3,840 x 1,200 and up to 450 nits of brightness. The monitor includes 1800R curvature and is highly adjustable with options to lift, tilt and swivel the display. The P44W also offers picture-by-picture capabilities for splitting the screen into two sides from different PCs. Additionally, the ThinkVision P44W offers a wide range of ports including two HDMI ports, USB-C and USB-A.

The Lenovo ThinkVision P44W will be available in April for a starting price of $1,299.99.

LG UltraWide Monitor 49WL95

LG debuted one of the widest new monitors at CES 2019, the UltraWide Monitor 49WL95, matching the 49-inch size of Dell's U4919DW. The LG UltraWide Monitor also shares the same 3800R curvature, 32:9 aspect ratio and 5,120 x 1,440 resolution of the Dell ultra-wide monitor. In addition, the monitor includes USB-C ports for data transfer and charging devices such as laptops.

Pricing and availability for the LG UltraWide Monitor 49WL95 has not been released.

Samsung Space Monitor

One of the most unique new monitors showcased at CES 2019 was Samsung's Space Monitor, which features a height-adjustable stand that can lower the display to sit on your desk or raise it all the way back up against the wall (or put it into any position in between). The Space Monitor also runs its wires in the back of the adjustable arm, so that there is no clutter from cables. It's a simple idea, but we can certainly see how it would fill a need for some users--especially if you have times when you just want the monitor out of the way so you can use more of your desk. The Samsung Space Monitor comes in two versions--27-inch WQHD (2,560 x 1,440 resolution) monitor with a 144 Hz refresh rate, along with a 32-inch 4K/UHD model.

The Samsung Space Monitor is now in pre-orders with pricing of $399.99 for the 27-inch model and $499.99 for the 32-inch model. Shipping is set to begin on Feb. 23.

Samsung UR59C

Samsung also used CES 2019 to unveil a new high-res curved monitor, the 32-inch UR59C. Samsung is calling the monitor the world's first 32-inch curved 4K display that is "designed for content creators." The monitor features 4K/UHD resolution and 1500R curvature, which the company says delivers an immersive experience that "shines while creating content and art." The display itself is also thin, at just 0.26 of an inch thick, and has virtually no bezel on the top, left and right sides of the screen. Additionally, the monitor's base encases its cables for reduced clutter.

The Samsung UR59C is now in pre-orders with pricing of $499.99. Shipping is set to begin the week of Feb. 24.
