The 5 Best-Selling Workstation Brands Of Q4 2018
World Of Workstations
HP Inc. may have held the No. 1 spot during the fourth quarter in terms of workstation sales through the total indirect channel, but Lenovo added the most share in the market among major vendors during the quarter. That's according to The NPD Group of Port Washington, N.Y. The research firm tracks monthly technology sales-out information from the largest IT distributors and the indirect channel in North America, down to the item level and with overlap removed. In the No. 3 spot for workstation sales through the total indirect channel, Dell also enjoyed growth during Q4, The NPD Group reported.
In the following slides are details on the five top-selling workstation vendors in Q4 of 2018, based on The NPD Group's data.
4. Boxx Technologies
Boxx Technologies inched upward in the market for workstation sales through the total indirect channel during the fourth quarter of the year, with the Austin, Texas-based company capturing 0.4 percent of the market. That was compared to zero percent a year earlier, according to The NPD Group, and it allowed Boxx to tie for fourth place in market share.
During the fourth quarter, Boxx announced the launch of its next-generation workstations, including the APEXX Enigma S3 workstation. The workstation features a ninth-generation Intel Core i7 processor that is overclocked for enhanced performance.
4. Fujitsu
Japan-based Fujitsu tied Boxx in terms of share of the market for workstation sales through the total indirect channel in Q4, with 0.4 percent of the market, The NPD Group reported. And also like Boxx, that was up from Fujitsu having zero percent of the market during the same period the year before.
During Q4, the company announced updates to the Fujitsu Workstation CELSIUS (H series) family, which include eighth-generation Intel Core processors and Nvidia graphics such as the Quadro P5200.
3. Dell
Dell achieved gains in the market for workstation sales through the total indirect channel during the fourth quarter, with the Round Rock, Texas-based company moving up to market share of 14.6 percent, compared to 12.5 percent a year earlier.
Dell's best-selling workstation during the quarter was the Precision 3420. The workstation tower features choices between Intel Core i processors from the seventh and sixth generations or the Intel Xeon E3-1200 v5. Discrete graphics options include the AMD FirePro or Nvidia Quadro series.
2. Lenovo
China-based Lenovo saw the biggest growth in its share of the market for workstations during the fourth quarter, according to The NPD Group. Lenovo accounted for 24.7 percent of workstation sales through the total indirect channel during Q4, up from 14.6 percent during the same period a year earlier.
Lenovo has been growing its workstation business with products including its Tiny workstation series, such as the ThinkStation P330 Tiny. The P330 Tiny weighs 2.9 pounds and is just one liter in overall size, while supporting up to six-core, eighth-generation Intel Core i7 processors and Nvidia Quadro P620 graphics.
1. HP Inc.
While HP Inc. easily held onto the No. 1 spot in terms of workstation sales through the total indirect channel in the fourth quarter, the Palo Alto, Calif.-based company saw its market share slip significantly, according to The NPD Group. HP dropped to market share of 59.8 percent during Q4, from 72.6 percent during the same period a year earlier, The NPD Group reported.
HP still had five of the six best-selling workstation models during the quarter, though, according to The NPD Group. Leading the way on sales through the indirect channel was the HP Z640 desktop workstation, with the best-selling configuration featuring the Intel Xeon E5-2637 v4 processor. The Z640 also features options for a number of other Intel Xeon processors, as well as choices between a range of Nvidia and AMD graphics options. Those include, at the high end of the spectrum, graphics such as the Nvidia Quadro M6000 and the AMD FirePro W7100.
