The 5 Best-Selling Desktop Brands Of Q1 2019
HP Inc., Lenovo and Dell saw the strongest desktop PC sales through technology distributors in the first quarter, according to The NPD Group.
Desktop Leaders
While HP Inc. continued to lead the way on desktop sales through North American distributors, Lenovo and Dell gained ground during the first quarter of 2019. That's according to The NPD Group of Port Washington, N.Y. The research firm tracks monthly technology sales-out information from the largest IT distributors and resellers in North America, down to the item level and with overlap removed. Following those three vendors in the rankings of top desktop makers in Q1 were Apple and Asus, the firm reported.

5. Asus
Taiwan-based Asus saw its desktop market share among North American distributors rise to 1.9 percent in the first quarter, from 1 percent a year earlier.
In October, Acer unveiled refreshed Predator Orion 9000 and 5000 gaming desktops, featuring ninth-gen Intel Core processors with up to 8 cores and 16 threads. The Predator Orion 9000 offers Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti graphics, while the Predator Orion 500 features GeForce RTX 2080 GPUs.
4. Apple
According to The NPD Group, Apple saw its desktop market share slip to 4.1 percent in the first quarter, in terms of sales through North American distributors. That's compared to 5.9-percent market share for the Cupertino, Calif.-based company during the same period a year earlier.
In late March, at the tail end of the first quarter, Apple announced refreshed models in its iMac all-in-one desktop portfolio focused around performance. The 27-inch iMac is now available with ninth-generation Intel processors, featuring six or eight cores. The 21.5-inch iMac is now offered with eighth-gen Intel processors, offering four or six cores. Both models are offered with AMD Radeon Pro or Radeon Pro Vega graphics. Other highlights include an optional 4K Retina display on the 21.5-inch model, while the 27-inch iMac comes with a 5K Retina display.
3. Dell
Round Rock, Texas-based Dell saw a jump in its share of the desktop market during the first quarter, to 19.1 percent of sales through North American distributors, up from 16.1 percent a year earlier.
According to The NPD Group, Dell saw strong sales in Q1 of desktops including the OptiPlex 3060 Micro Form Factor PC. The compact-sized desktop, which measures 7.2 inches high and 1.4 inches wide, offers up to the eighth-gen Intel Core i5-8500T processor (which features up to six cores and a clock speed of up to 3.5 GHz).
2. Lenovo
China-based Lenovo also expanded its share of desktop sales through North American distributors during the first quarter, snagging a 25.6-percent market share, up from 23.7 percent during the same period of 2018.
According to The NPD Group, a top-seller for Lenovo in Q1 was the ThinkCentre M720 Tiny, which features a compact design measuring 1.4 inches wide and 7 inches high. The M720 Tiny offers up to the eighth-gen Intel Core i7-8700T processor (clock speed of up to 4.0 GHz), along with a maximum of 32 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of PCIe SSD storage.
1. HP Inc.
Palo Alto, Calif.-based HP Inc. retained its lead in the desktop PC market, in terms of sales through North American distributors, in the first quarter, according to The NPD Group. However, HP's share of the market declined to 44.2 percent, from 49.3 percent a year earlier.
According to The NPD Group, HP's sales in Q1 were buoyed by desktops including the ProDesk 400 G5, a micro-tower PC that offers eighth-gen Intel Core processors (up to the Core i7-8700, with a clock speed of up to 4.6 GHz). HP also saw strong sales of the EliteDesk 800 G4, a compact-sized desktop that can be mounted behind a display and features eighth-gen Intel Core processors.
