HP Inc. saw strong gains in its share of notebook sales through distributors and resellers during the third quarter of the year, capturing the No. 1 slot from Lenovo. That's according to The NPD Group of Port Washington, N.Y. The NPD Group tracks monthly technology sales-out information from the largest IT distributors and resellers in North America, down to the item level and with overlap removed. Following Lenovo at No. 2 in the market for notebook sales through distributors and resellers, Apple also expanded its market share, and placed at No. 3.

5. Panasonic
Panasonic saw a small gain in its market share for notebook sales through distributors and resellers in Q3. The company's share of the market hit 3.9 percent, compared to 3.8 percent the year before. Major recent releases in Panasonic's portfolio have included the Toughbook 20, a rugged 2-in-1 detachable laptop that offers up to 17 hours of battery life thanks to an included second battery.
4. Dell
Dell's share of the market for notebook sales through distributors and resellers saw a slight dip in the third quarter. The company's share came in at 14.5 percent, versus 14.6 percent during the same quarter of 2017, according to The NPD Group. Dell has launched an array of new notebooks in 2018 across its commercial, mobile workstation and Chromebook lines. They include new Latitude commercial laptops such as the Latitude 7390 2-in-1, a 13.3-inch convertible notebook that adopts Microsoft's Precision Touchpad and has a weight of just three pounds.
3. Apple
Apple enjoyed significant gains in its share of notebook sales through distributors and resellers during Q3. The company's share of the market grew to 15.4 percent, up from 13.1 percent during the same period a year earlier. Top-selling Apple notebooks during the quarter, according to The NPD Group, included the 2017 model of the MacBook Air and the 2018 model of the 15-inch MacBook Pro, which features enhanced performance with up to six-core Intel Core processors and up to 32 GB of RAM.
2. Lenovo
Lenovo shed market share in terms of notebook sales through distributors and resellers during the third quarter, with its share dropping to 28.3 percent from 33.4 percent the year before, according to The NPD Group. Lenovo's strongest-selling model during the quarter was the N22, an 11.6-inch Chromebook focused on education. The company has also released a large selection of refreshed ThinkPad notebooks in 2018 including new models of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and ThinkPad X1 Yoga, which feature performance and display enhancements.
1. HP Inc.
HP Inc. grabbed the No. 1 spot from Lenovo in the third quarter for notebook sales through distributors and resellers. The company's share of the market jumped to 32.8 percent from 30.6 percent during the same period a year earlier. HP dominated the list of the 10 best-selling notebooks through distributors and resellers in Q3, according to The NPD Group, with seven of the 10 top sellers--led by models such as the ProBook x360 and EliteBook 840 G3. HP also refreshed its mainstream commercial EliteBook 800 series in 2018, bringing in premium features from its EliteBook x360 lineup such as advanced security capabilities and dedicated collaboration keys on the keyboard.
