After entering the collaboration display market last June, ViewSonic surged into the leading position in the market during the first quarter of the year, in terms of unit sales through distributors. The growth came at the expense of market share for Microsoft and its Surface Hub collaboration display, according to The NPD Group, of Port Washington, N.Y. The NPD Group tracks monthly technology sales-out information from the largest IT distributors and resellers in North America, down to the item level and with overlap removed.

5. Cisco Systems
San Jose, Calif.-based Cisco Systems maintained its position in the collaboration display market in the first quarter, with 8.9 percent of units sold through distributors. That's largely flat from the same period a year before, when Cisco had market share of 8.6 percent.
The 55-inch model of Cisco's Spark Board (now known as the Webex Board) ranked in the No. 5 spot in terms of top-selling collaboration displays in Q1, according to The NPD Group, while the 70-inch model ranked at No. 8.
4. InFocus
Portland, Ore.-based InFocus saw minimal share gains in the collaboration display market during the first quarter, The NPD Group reports. InFocus captured 9.2 percent of unit sales through distributors, compared to 8.1 percent the year before.
The quarter's top-selling model from InFocus was the JTouch INF7530eAG, a 75-inch collaboration display focused on the education market, which ranked in the No. 6 spot.
3. Sharp
Japan-based Sharp suffered a steep dropoff in its share of the collaboration display market in Q1, according to The NPD Group. Sharp plummeted to 5.3 percent of unit sales through distributors, down from 22.8 percent during the same period of 2017.
Despite the loss of market share, the company still scored a top-selling collaboration display during Q1 -- the 70-inch model of the Sharp Aquos Board, which ranked at No. 7 during the quarter in terms of unit sales through distributors.
2. Microsoft
Like Sharp, Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft saw an erosion of its market share in collaboration displays during the first quarter of the year, The NPD Group reported. Microsoft's share of unit sales through distributors slid to 34.1 percent -- still a significant position, but well below the 60.5-percent share of the market that Microsoft had held one year prior.
Microsoft's collaboration display, the Surface Hub, saw both of its sizes among the top sellers during Q1, according to The NPD Group. The 55-inch Surface Hub came in at No. 2 in terms of unit sales through distributors, while the 84-inch Surface Hub ranked at No. 4.

Grabbing market share from the other vendors during the first quarter was Brea, Calif.-based ViewSonic, which had just entered the collaboration display market in June 2017. ViewSonic snagged 41.4 percent of unit sales through distributors during the first quarter of the year, The NPD Group reported, whereas the company had no sales in the market during the same period last year.
ViewSonic landed two of the top three best-selling collaboration displays during the first quarter of the year, according to The NPD Group. ViewSonic's 65-inch ViewBoard IFP6550 ranked as the No. 1 top seller for the quarter, while the 75-inch ViewBoard IFP7500 ranked at No. 3 in terms of unit sales through distributors.
