This quarter's top-selling network security products included the best of the best from Cisco, Juniper, SonicWall, NetGear and Fortinet, according to data from Port Washington, N.Y.-based NPD Group, which compiles data in its DistributorTrack sales database from leading distributors in the U.S. Global Technology Distribution Council. The vendors touted integrated solutions for networking and security, each bringing its own twist to next-generation and traditional features to vie for the top spot on this quarter's list.

10. Cisco Systems ASA 5505 Security Appliance
The Cisco ASA 5500 Series combines firewalls, VPNs and more for small to medium-size business clients. As part of that series, the ASA 5505 Security Appliance w/50U VPN Peers, which ranked No. 10 on the list of most popular network security products, is an adaptive security appliance firewall tailored for SMB clients with one or a few locations. Features for the 10-user bundle solution include an 8-port fast Ethernet switch, 10 IPsec VPN peers, 2 premium VPN peers, triple data encryption standard and advanced encryption standard license.
9. Cisco Systems MX60W Security Appliance
Coming in ninth place is another solution by Cisco Systems, the MX60W-HW 4Port 450 Mbps 802.11n Security Appliance. Part of Cisco's Meraki line of wireless network appliances, the MX60W is an all-in-one networking and security solution tailored for small business clients. It combines 802.11n WiFi connectivity with a next-generation firewall, auto VPN, content filtering, traffic shaping, intrusion detection and more. As with the rest of the Meraki line of products, the MX60W is designed to be easy to deploy and manage with cloud-based central management and monitoring.
8. NetGear ProSafe FVS318G Firewall/VPN Appliance
The NetGear ProSafe FVS318G Firewall/VPN Appliance came in eighth place on NPD's list of most popular network security solutions for the first quarter. Tailored for small business, the security appliance features an 8-port Gigabit VPN firewall, which includes IPsec VPN tunnels, secure remote access and allows for fast data movement. More specifically, the firewall solution includes denial-of-service protection, stateful packet inspection, URL keyword filtering, logging, reporting and real-time alerts, according to the company's website.
7. SonicWall TZ 105 Security Appliance
Coming in seventh place on NPD's top network security products for Q1 2015 was Dell SonicWall's TZ 105 5 Port 10/100BTX Security Appliance. The solution is tailored for small businesses, particularly focusing on retail, government, remote sites and branch offices, the company said. The firewall platform includes unified threat management, application intelligence, application control, advanced traffic analytics, reporting and more. Touting an ability to add security features without slowing down the network, the solution also includes IPSec, SSL VPN and encrypted high-speed 801.11n wireless. It is also available as part of SonicWall's TotalSecure offering, which wraps hardware and services together.
6. Cisco ASA 5505 Security Appliance, Unlimited Users
The Cisco ASA 5505 Security Appliance makes it second appearance on the NPD top 10 network security products, grabbing the No. 6 spot for its ASA 5505 appliance for unlimited users. Both solutions feature next-generation firewall, anti-X, SSL VPN services and IPSec capabilities. The unlimited user version includes an 8-port Fast Ethernet switch, 10 IPSec VPN peers, 2 SSL VPN peers and 3 DES/AES licenses and 1 expansion slot.
5. Juniper Networks SRX100 Service Gateway
Juniper Networks came in fifth place on the NPD ranking with its SRX100 8 Port 10/100BT Service Gateway. Combining a network and a security solution into one, the SRX100 Service Gateway includes IP routing, switching and LAN connectivity with IP security, VPN and firewall technology. The solution, which runs on Juniper's Junos operating system, is geared towards small to medium-size businesses or enterprise branch locations. It features 8 Fast Ethernet ports, 2 GB DRAM, and 2 GB NAND flash memory.
4. Cisco Systems MX64 Security Appliance
In yet another appearance on the NPD list, Cisco landed in the fourth spot with its MX64 Security Appliance. Part of its Meraki line, the MX64 brings together network security solutions, such as firewalls, VPNs and IPSec, with application management and security, including traffic shaping, antivirus and content filtering. The MX64 solution is geared toward small branch clients, supporting up to 50 users. As with other Meraki products, the MX64 solution is designed for ease of use through central cloud management and monitoring.
3. Cisco Systems ASA 5505 Security Appliance, 10U VPN Peers
Making its third appearance on the Q1 2015 list, the Cisco Systems ASA 5505 Security Appliance with 10U VPN Peers landed at the No. 3 spot. While the other two solutions covered 50U VPN peers and unlimited users, the most popular version of the ASA 5505 Security Appliance was the 10U VPN peers.
2. SonicWall TZ 105 Security Appliance
In its second appearance on the NPD list, SonicWall landed at the second spot for most popular network security product with its TZ 105 5 Port 10/100/1000BT Security Appliance. The solution is geared towards small businesses and home offices, with 10 Mb LAN and 100 Mb LAN and 801.11n access points. Security features of the unified threat management solution include intrusion protection, anti-malware with the company's CloudAssist solution, IPSec, SSL VPN and content and URL filtering.
1. Fortinet FortiWiFi 60D Security Appliance
Landing at the No. 1 spot for network security solutions was Fortinet with its FortiWiFi 60D 10 Port 10/100/1000 Mbps 801.11n Security Appliance. Focused on small to medium-size business and branch offices, Fortinet says the solution provides enterprise-grade solutions tailored to handle BYOD environments and others that require all-in-one next-generation security. Features of the security appliance include ATP, firewall, access control, IPSec, VPN, Web filtering and more, the company said. The solution is compatible with Fortinet's FortiGuard security subscription services.
