Building An MSP: Baroan Technologies Secret To Success
The year is 1997—Titanic is about to break box office records, media is still being sold in physical formats and Guy Baroan is founding an MSP that will grow and adapt over the next three decades. Baroan Technologies has stood the test of time in a landscape that looks much different than when it was first founded. What does it take to maintain a competitive edge?
"The biggest challenge we have in this industry is how quickly things change," Baroan states. In today's landscape, cybersecurity and AI have emerged as the latest industry disruptors. But even as these solutions innovate, Baroan Technologies stays ahead by embracing evolution and focusing on client needs. "Our goal has always been to make a difference with the companies that we work with ... how do we do the right thing for the clients? How do we help them?"
Being able to provide the right tools to a solution provider is a different story. Knowing every single platform, tool and solution available to an MSP is next to impossible. That’s why Guy has built relationships and transparency with other solution providers to help cut through the noise and find out what business practices actually work.
Central to this philosophy has been their partnership with Ingram Micro. Darren Gottesmann from Ingram Micro first met Guy at a networking event and immediately recognized a kindred approach. "Sharing is everything. It's the foundation of our communities," Gottesmann says.
Through events and direct engagements, Ingram Micro helped provide opportunities for Baroan Technologies to engage with new connections and share their knowledge, as well. Baroan is also part of Ingram Micro’s Trust X Alliance, a global network of solution providers dedicated to growing a community of like-minded businesses.
This collaborative approach may seem counterintuitive, but Baroan argues for its merits. "There's nothing to worry about from a competitive perspective. If anything, it's the complete opposite," he explains. Sharing best practices with other MSPs, rather than being a threat, provides new opportunities for growth and innovation.
Building trusted relationships and sharing knowledge are not just beneficial but a cornerstone of success. Baroan Technologies’ approach doesn’t just build strong relationships with their client base, but with other businesses who will have insights into the industry that give them a cutting edge. As Guy puts it, being part of such a community provides "a shortcut to success."
