EMC Appoints Elias To Head New Global Services Group
The new organization, under Executive Vice President Howard Elias, brings EMC's customer service, technology solutions, professional services, consulting, and customer education programs under one roof.
The vendor also named CFO Bill Teuber as its new vice chairman, and promoted Frank Hauck, a 15-year company veteran, to the position of executive vice president of global marketing and customer quality.
Elias has been at EMC since 2003, when he left his position as head of storage for Hewlett-Packard in the wake of that company's acquisition of Compaq, and was most recently responsible for EMC's global marketing, corporate development, and new ventures.
Services has been a fast-growing part of EMC's business. Just last week, EMC acquired Interlink, an Englewood, Colo.-based Microsoft solution provider. That acquisition followed EMC's acquisition in January of Internosis, a Greenbelt, Md.-based Microsoft solution provider.
The services capabilities of the two acquired solution providers will be offered to EMC customers via its direct sales force, while technology and best practices related to those services will be made available to channel partners, EMC executives told CRN at the time of the acquisitions.
EMC last month made a number of bundled managed services available for resale or implementation by channel partners, including services related to stationing EMC personnel at a customer site, offering computing as a utility, and managing a customer's on-site storage.
EMC has also said that it is developing a services practice around security of data that is stored on-site or off-site in order to prevent data loss in the event of a lost data tape or a breech in network security.
Elias was not available to comment on his new position.
Joe Tucci, chairman, president, and CEO of EMC, said in a statement that customers are looking towards EMC to increasingly provide end-to-end information lifecycle management experience combining products and services. "Howard's extensive industry experience and proven EMC leadership will enable him to help us set the strategy and create the best practices to deliver a seamless service experience to our customers," he said.
