T-Mobile Offers Pricing, Availability Details For Dell Streak 7 Tablet

Dell unveiled the Android Streaktablet earlier this month at CES 2011. The Streak includes a 7-inch display and works with T-Mobile's 4G network. The device uses a 2.2-GHz Nvidia's Tegra Dual Core processor. The Streak comes with Gorilla Glass protection for its WGA touch-screen, two 1.3 megapixel front and rear-facing cameras, built-in Wi-Fi capability, and Adobe Flash support.

The 7-inch Dell Streak follows a middle path between Apple's 9.7-inch iPad and the original, 5-inch Streak Dell launched last year.

T-Mobile's Dell Streak customers will have the option of obtaining data service via monthly-subscription or through pre-paid data plans, the company said. Users will also be able to access T-Mobile's Talk Live video chat service along with a number of other consumer-oriented applications.

Although the Streak is aimed at consumers, Dell has stated its intention of bringing enterprise-oriented solutions to the Streak product line. In September, Dell said it planned to bring mobile medical and clinical technology to the Android-based Streak device, in order to attract more health-care customers with its smartphone technology.

Dell CEO Michael Dell in September showed off a 7-inch Streak prototype at Oracle's OpenWorld conference in San Francisco. Since then, the company has dealt with a series of delays to the release of the Dell Venue Pro smartphone and postponed shipments of pre-ordered units, and a backlash from customers expressing their discontent on Dell's online customer support forum.

Adding uncertainty to Dell's efforts in the burgeoning mobile device space, Dell in December discontinued its mobile communications unitand parted ways with Ron Garriques, the chief executive who ran the unit since 2007. Nevertheless, the company has said it plans to offer a variety of mobile devices featuring a range of form factors to market in 2011.
